Steps in seeking ilm

Alee ibn al-Hasan ibn Shaqeeq said


I heard Abdullaah ibn al-Mubaarak say:


The first step towards (seeking) knowledge is

the (sincerity of) intention, then it is listening,


then it is understanding (this knowledge),

then it is memorising (this knowledge),


then it is acting (upon this knowledge),

then it is spreading (this knowledge).

and what you've mentioned is the interpretation of the last verse of surat Al-'Asr (( إلا الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات وتواصوا بالحق وتواصوا بالصبر))
1- seeking knowedge
2- applying what you've learnt
3- preaching it
4- having patience
